Rotation speed sensors are crucial for safeguarding components of a rotating system (such the engine drive) from mechanical overload. They are used to monitor, regulate, and control mechanical drive systems.
The Global Rotational Speed Sensor market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Using the magnetoresistive effect, the rotating speed sensors KMI 15/x and KMI 16/x from NXP Semiconductors measure speed.
They are made up of a permanent magnet fixed to the magnetoresistive sensor element, an integrated signal conditioning circuit, and the sensor itself.
In comparison to Hall-Effect sensors or inductive sensors, the magnetoresistive principle has a number of benefits, including measurements at zero speed and a higher signal-to-noise ratio.
The tiny output voltage of the sensor element is amplified and converted to a digital output signal by the sensor modules KMI 15/x or KMI 16/x's integrated signal conditioning circuitry.
This signal is either a switched output voltage with an open collector (KMI 16/x) or a rectangular modulation of the supply current for two-wire technology.
Both sensor modules are highly compatible with electromagnetic interference from both radiated and conducted sources, which is a necessity of the automotive industry.
Although the KMI sensor modules are made for automotive applications, they may be utilised effectively for movement detection and rotational speed measurement in a variety of industrial applications.
The KMI sensor modules offer the application two distinct interfaces. The KMI 15/x sensor modules only need a two-wire connection to the application circuit since its interface uses a digital modification of the supply current. If signals have travelled across extended distances, the present interface is advised.
In order to fit more readily in common applications, a 3-pin open-collector variant (KMI 16/x) is also offered.
