Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) is a type of chromatographic technique used to separate, concentrate and purify macromolecules, such as proteins and polymers, based on their molecular size. SEC is also known as gel filtration chromatography or molecular sieve chromatography and is a widely used technique in both research and industrial applications.
In SEC, the sample is loaded onto a column packed with porous particles of uniform size and shape. As the sample passes through the column, different size molecules will be excluded from entering the pores of the particles, resulting in a separation based on size.
Small molecules are able to pass through the pores and elute early, while larger molecules will be retained by the column and elute later. The elution of the sample is monitored by a detector, typically a UV detector, and a chromatogram is produced.
SEC is used in a variety of applications, including the purification of proteins, polymers and enzymes, the characterization of proteins, the determination of the size and shape of proteins, the analysis of mixtures, and the quantification of proteins. It can also be used to separate and/or purify biomolecules such as DNA, lipids and carbohydrates, as well as for desalting and buffer exchange.
SEC is a valuable technique for the biopharmaceutical industry, as it is used for the production of therapeutic proteins, such as monoclonal antibodies, and for the purification and characterization of proteins for drug development. It is also widely used in medical research, as it can be used to separate, identify and quantify proteins involved in disease processes.
The Global Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) System market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
XBridge Premier GTx BEH size exclusion chromatography (SEC) columns were introduced by Waters Corporation. In particular, the new SEC columns for adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors are intended to enhance analysis while reducing the expense of gene therapies.
With three to ten times less sample, faster findings, and more drug material information provided, the columns seek to lower the cost of gene treatments. Target analyte resolution might be increased by up to 50% and analytical speed could be doubled or quadrupled with the help of a novel multi-attribute quantification technique.
The study, development, and production of biotherapeutic proteins, such as insulin and monoclonal antibodies, employ the aggregate and fragment analysis method known as SEC.
New INTip Size Exclusion Chromatography Product Line Launched by DPX Technologies. The solution enables a hands-off approach for size exclusion chromatography operations and is patent pending.
It makes use of a revolutionary INTip swelling process. Less than 20 minutes are needed to prepare and prepare the gel resin bed for sample application thanks to the automated INTip swelling process.
The process of separating molecules based on size through the use of SEC resin media is called size exclusion chromatography (SEC), which is also referred to as gel filtration. The DPX methodology separates small molecules, like salts, from a group of larger molecules, like proteins, using a group separation technique for desalting and buffer exchange.
For antibody purification or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) cleanup, desalting and buffer exchange are frequently performed before affinity chromatography. With its highly reproducible, automated solution for proteomics applications, the new product range offers SEC pipette tips and automation accessories.
Now that the COVID-19 pandemic has raised awareness of antibody testing and PCR cleanup, DPX is dedicated to creating tools that streamline and automate the process of preparing complex samples for biological matrices.
High throughput methods for processing thousands of samples per day are needed in laboratories; this new product and the INTip filtering solutions for Tip-on-Tip solid phase extraction will help.
