Skydiving, also known as parachuting, is the employment of a parachute to slow a diver's descent to the ground after jumping from an airplane or other high elevation, either for leisure or competitive purposes.
Before diving with a camera, a skydiver should have 200 dives. The camera flyer should be familiar with the experience and abilities of all the other jumpers in the group and should have completed at least 50 recent jumps using the same parachute equipment.
The Global Skydiving Camera market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
A brand-new intelligent robot camera called the Freefall Camera is developed to autonomously photograph skydivers as they jump out of planes at altitudes of up to 6,000 feet.
The innovative extreme sports tool, created by academics from the University of Nottingham in the U.K., was recently displayed at the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems in Vancouver, Canada.
Video footage is essential for training and competition in sport skydiving. To receive a video of the jump right now, one must ask a skydiving cameraman to follow them while donning a camera helmet.
Other extreme sports are experimenting with drones to remotely record the event, so as a student of mechanical engineering who enjoys skydiving, they chose to do this for an undergrad project.
Four ailerons are used by the robot to propel it forward, and it may change the surface area of one aileron to increase drag and decrease velocity. The robot is used by a skydiver who releases it after jumping out of an aircraft while still clutching it.
The robot can then visually follow the skydiver and aim the camera with the help of sensors on board. The robot can manoeuvre to a predetermined landing zone after the skydive and then open a parachute.
Only a few people are exempt from this regulation, including skydivers. Aviation regulations are starting to adapt and alter, though, as drone use has recently skyrocketed.
It will take time to determine if these changes ultimately favour or impede autonomous vessels like the freefall camera.
