The more specialized cousins of the basic line array are steerable arrays. Lobe steering is possible when the speaker centers of a vertical array are separated by half a wavelength.
Each array element or pair of elements in some designs is progressive delayed, with the highest speaker transmitting first in basic steering.
An effect similar to that produced by physically tilting the array is produced by this incremental delay. The array's output can now be "steered" away from highly reflective surfaces, which improves intelligibility and significantly reduces the excitation of the reverberant field.
A separate DSP engine treats each driver individually to ensure that all output reaches the intended listening plane on time and in phase.
As a result, a steered array could theoretically be controlled over the entire bandwidth of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.Sadly, practical considerations come into play at both ends of the frequency range.
An array that is extremely high would be required to fully control the long wavelengths of low bass frequencies, which is clearly not feasible in many buildings.
On the other hand, in order to keep the speakers' centers within a half-wavelength of each other at 20 kHz, a spacing of approximately 3/8 in is required.
Unfortunately, there is no driver that is this small and capable of providing the required SPL, so high frequencies cannot be effectively guided.
The Global Steerable audio arrays market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
The new IC8-HD, IC Live X, and IC Live XL models of Renkus-Heinz's acclaimed Iconyx-series digitally steerable column arrays represent a significant expansion.
The IC8-HD is Renkus-Heinz's highest-ever definition array, and the IC Live X and IC Live XL offer even higher SPL than the current ICLive.
The three new models were unveiled by the California-based manufacturer at ISE, which was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The new models of the Iconyx series all feature digital beam-steering technology, which precisely directs the sound away from walls and ceilings and toward the audience.
Systems that cover even the most challenging areas are made possible by this combination of Renkus-Heinz technologies, and the slim enclosures remain vertical and undetectable.
The new IC8-HD from Renkus-Heinz uses 32 discrete amplifier/DSP channels to control its 24 high-frequency drivers and eight 4-inch low-mid woofers, resulting in precise beam steering and superior audio performance.
