Film resistors are damaged when sulfurous environments react with elements, particularly silver. Resistors may open circuit as a result of sulfuric acid growth.
The operating lifetime of sulfur-resistant resistors was longer than that of the standard device. This corrosion-related type of hard failure can be significantly reduced or eliminated by using Bourns sulfur-resistant film resistors and arrays.
This improves system reliability, performance, robustness, and reduces downtime.
It can be used in a variety of industries, including the information technology industry, server farms, data/storage centers, notebooks and desktop computers, communication base stations, industrial motor controls, pump controls, and welding equipment, rubber, paper, and oil manufacturing, outdoor and on-road applications, traffic control, marine, agricultural, and winery equipment, and lighting and traffic control.
The Global sulfur resistant resistors market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
The S4x Series Sulfur Resistant Chip Resistor Arrays from CTS Corporation are the latest addition to the resistor network product line.
Without the reliability issues that plague many standard chip and chip array resistor products, the new series was specifically designed to function in a sulfurous environment.
The new series supports standard EIA E-24 resistor values, optional resistor tolerances of 5%, 2%, or 1%, and a temperature coefficient of 200ppm/°C over an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. It is available in popular convex and concave package configurations.
The silver conductor that connects the printed resistor element to the termination in standard products can corrode and form a layer of silver sulfide when constantly exposed to environments with high sulfur levels.
The resistor connection electrically functions as an open circuit because the silver sulfide can crack the ceramic substrate over time or create a path with a very high resistance.
Between the silver conductor and the final epoxy cover coat layer, the S4x Series design incorporates a protective layer.Sulfide growth is prevented by this barrier, which prevents sulfur from fusion into the interface with silver.
In many electronic devices, system reliability is essential, and component failures can be costly for manufacturers, end users, and service customers.
The CTS S4x Series has excellent electrical performance and a platform that resists corrosion, providing a longer operating life than conventional devices for applications that operate in sulfur-polluted environments where hard failures cannot be tolerated.
