The air pressure within the pneumatic tires on vehicles is monitored by a tire-pressure monitoring system. On-board computer systems can compare the data collected by these sensors with that collected by other sensors and with other vehicle operation data, such as speed, to determine the rate at which each wheel is rotating.
The computer can assess the relative size of the tires on the vehicle based on how quickly each wheel revolves.
The Global Tire pressure sensor market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Sensata launched innovative tire pressure sensors that can identify different tire brands. The sensor, which is directly mounted to the inner liner of the tire, can measure the force with which the tire strikes the ground in addition to monitoring tire pressure.
Additionally, the sensor can recognize the tire's make and model, and it maintains data for that particular tire throughout its lifespan. Sensata claims that the technology can increase driving range, fuel efficiency, tire life, and safety.
The vertical load on each tire can be calculated while the vehicle is moving by combining the sensor data with a load calculation algorithm. The driver will then receive a warning from the system if the vehicle is overweight or unbalanced.
According to Sensata, a vehicle that is 10% overloaded can have a 16% decrease in tire life and a 10% decrease in fuel economy. Therefore, safety and tire life can be increased due to the sensor's data.
With real-time feedback from the sensors, an electric vehicle's battery management system (BMS) can calculate the range of the vehicle more precisely.
Tire pressure sensors can be added during the manufacturing process or after the vehicle has been used. Through early detection of a hazardous state of the tires, this aims to prevent road accidents, poor fuel economy, and increased tire wear caused by under-inflated tires.
By enabling the vehicle to modify performance and handling to match the mounted tire, the sensor is also said to aid in better vehicle handling.
Additionally, since it recognizes tire manufacturers, it can make warranty monitoring simpler for tire and vehicle OEMs.
