An electrical device that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy is an electric motor. The majority of electric motors work by creating force in the form of torque imparted to the motor shaft through the interplay of the magnetic field of the motor and electric current in a wire winding.
Although an electric generator and an electric motor are technically equivalent, an electric generator uses a reversed power flow to transform mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Electric motors can be powered by alternating current sources like a power grid, inverters, or electrical generators or by direct current sources like batteries or rectifiers.
The Uganda Electric motor Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
In Uganda, the state-owned automaker Kira Motors intends to begin producing electric motors. The plant is currently being built in Jinja. Uganda is no stranger to the manufacturing of automobiles. VW is currently conducting mobility pilots and assembling EMs in Kigali, Rwanda's capital.
The Chinese manufacturer CHTC Motor provides support for the EM plant for Kira, which is owned by the Ugandan government. They are already building the plant in Jinja, close to Kampala, with the intention of producing the necessary parts locally.
Steel, lithium, and copper from Uganda are going to be used to make the electric buses. The local media also talk about seats made of banana fiber and floors made of bamboo.
In addition, it is not the first electric motor produced by Kira when e-buses become available in the coming years. The Kira EM, a two-passenger prototype and the first PHEV designed and built entirely in Africa, was produced by the Kira team.
