A three-port passive or active device called an RF mixer can modulate or demodulate a signal. Its objective is to alter the frequency of an electromagnetic transmission while maintaining all other aspects of the original signal.

With the release of the GRF7001, a high linearity mixer with an integrated LO buffer, Guerrilla RF Inc. introduces a new frequency conversion family.
This device can be used as an up- or down-converter and has a minimal conversion loss. Internally matched to 50 ohms, the GRF7001's inputs and outputs are single-ended. In order to implement the device, the RF port must have an external image-reject filter, and the IF port must have an IF bandpass filter.
With the proper filtering in place, pins 4 and 6 can be utilized for either RF or IF. With a selectable IDDQ range of 10 to 30 mA, the integrated LO buffer is powered by a single positive supply that ranges from 3.0 to 5.0 V. The GRF7001 has a frequency range of 0.1 to 5.0 GHz for its RF/IF and 0.1 to 4.0 GHz for its LO.
