The United States is recognized as a global leader in sustainable seafood for both wild-caught and farmed species. In 2019, U.S. commercial fishermen brought in $5.5 billion from the landing of 9.3 billion pounds of fish and shellfish.

 

The total value of exports in 2022 is $5.39 billion. 1 metric tonne (millions) of total volume. The three-year mean is $5.05 billion. 2020 saw Dutch Harbour, Alaska, lead the country as the port with the most volume of seafood landed for the 24th year in a row (800.1 million pounds, valued at $186.7 million).

 

52.2 percent of the value and 92.1 percent of the volume were accounted for by Alaska pollock, or walleye. An extra 34.6 percent of the value and 2.1 percent of the volume of Dutch Harbour landings came from high-value snow and king crabs.

 

The port with the highest valued catch in the country was New Bedford, Massachusetts, with 115.4 million pounds valued at $376.6 million. Of the total, sea scallops accounted for 26% of the volume and 83.6 percent of the value.
