A UV FADE RESISTANT or sun-resistant fabric is one that has been treated to withstand UV rays, which account for approximately ten percent of the sunâs light. UV stands for âultraviolet,â which is a form of light wave or radiation.
UV rays have a shorter wavelength than visible light and a longer wavelength than X-rays. This wavelength makes them particularly good at penetrating through objects, which is how they can cause damage.
A UV Fade resistance basically means that the fabric is treated to last longer than a "normal" or "standard" fabric. The fabric is more durable for outdoor use. They are great for use on patios, decks, gazebos etc, even in areas of filtered light. They will not last around chlorine, and direct sunlight on an ongoing basis.
Solution-dyed polyester is especially great for outdoor use - it has exceptional UV/sun resistance and wear properties. Not to mention, solution-dyed fabrics are much better for the environment.
U-V-Block, on the other hand, is a permanent UV absorber. It stops the sun's damaging rays before they penetrate the clothing and reach the skin. One easy application increases the UPF of a thin, white, cotton t-shirt.
The Global UV fade resistant fabric market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Archroma launches Fadex AS New, a âsuper UV protectorâ to make automotive and transportation textiles even more resistant to light
Archroma developed Fadex AS New to address this challenge, providing textile manufacturers serving the automotive industry with a new, advanced light fastness improver, especially when used in Archromaâs LIGHT FAST CAR system with its Dorospers A & K high-light-fast dyes.
During the long life span of cars and other transport vehicles, some of their components, such as the polyester trims of doors and pillars, seat covers, carpet flooring or head lining, are exposed to high levels of sunlight and UV rays.
This intense light and heat often cause fabric color to fade more quickly and polyester fiber to weaken, making the car interior look older. The light fastness requirements specified by motor vehicle manufacturers are therefore extremely high, and only carefully selected products can meet them.
