INTRODUCTION

Flatbed digital printers sometimes referred to as flatbed printers or UV flatbed printers, have a flat surface on which a material is placed to be printed.

 

Printing on a wide range of materials, including photographic paper, film, fabric, plastic, pvc, acrylic, glass, ceramic, metal, wood, and leather, is possible with flatbed printers.

Digital printing technology makes it feasible to generate shorter runs of signs at a reasonable cost because no printing plates or silkscreens are required.

 

Roll-feed is supported by a large number of high-end flatbed printers, enabling unattended printing. Because it generates fewer waste cartridges and less indoor air pollution than its commercial predecessor, solvent printing, flatbed digital printing is based on a more environmentally friendly system.

 

Flatbed printer resolution ranges from 72 DPI (dots per inch) to roughly 2400 DPI. Although confined to only flat materials and taking up a lot of surface space, a flatbed printer's flexibility of printed materials is one of its benefits.

 

While the majority of flatbed printers can only print on flat surfaces, some can also print on cylindrical objects like bottles and cans utilizing rotary adapters that position and spin the object as the printhead applies ink.

 

However, because inkjet printers fire ink onto an angled and farther away surface, the print resolution tends to degrade around the borders of the printed picture when flatbed printers are used to print on small, spherical objects like ping pong balls.

 

UV Flatbed printers occasionally use many passes to create a 3D embossing effect on a surface. To add glossy finishes or highlights to the print, this is either done with colored inks or a clear varnish.

 

Printers that can print on both a flatbed surface and roll-to-roll, allowing the use of flexible substrates kept in rolls, is frequently referred to as "hybrid" UV printers.
