The gratings on tREXS were created and configured in a way that allows for extremely precise wavelength separation.
They were aiming for the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus that is around 1,000 light years away and a source of diffuse X-rays. The next day, they were able to safely recover the payload and all of the onboard data.
