GLOBAL AIRCRAFT GROUND POWER UNIT MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

Ground power units are the backbone of any hangar, providing electricity to aircraft while they are parked on the runway or inside the hangar.

Each aircraft’s GPU (ground power unit) uses a standard electrical system, battery pack, and gasoline, diesel, or small turbine engine to produce the required amount of power. Over time, GPUs have contributed to the reduction in size and increase in efficiency of ground support equipment.

A direct current (DC) system resembles an automobile. A DC ground power unit is used for general aviation aircraft, smaller jet aircraft, and turboprop aircraft, and is typically a 12 or 24V system. A system that uses alternating current (AC) is more comparable to the electricity used to power homes and other structures.

Larger business jets and commercial airliners require the AC electrical system, which operates in the 400 Hz frequency.

GLOBAL AIRCRAFT GROUND POWER UNIT MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST

The Global aircraft ground power unit Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.

    NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

At the inter airport Europe trade show in Munich, Cavotec introduced the new 2500+ ground power unit. The system, which can easily be coupled with a 400Hz modular coiler (PowerPack I-connect), was created for the global market to satisfy rising airline demand.

The Series 2500+ satisfies both the criteria for operating efficiency and the increasing power load requirements of new generation passenger aircraft. While conventional current converters can handle a maximum power load of about 400 percent, the 2500+ is a 90 kW solid state frequency converter that ensures a 500 percent overflow.

Electrical loads for next-generation aircraft will be covered by the aircraft ground power unit and converter.

JFKIAT recently began a 60-day trial of an electric ground power unit (eGPU) made by ITW GSE, a well-known supplier of ground support systems for the aviation sector. The 180kVA eGPU unit was created by ITW GSE in collaboration with Royal Schiphol Group and can support widebody and jumbo aircraft.

As an alternative to diesel-powered GPUs, the new trial programme includes battery-powered ground power units for aircraft at T4. The grid provides power to the GPU at a conventional gate, but portable GPUs, which are often powered by diesel, are needed for aircraft parked at hardstands.

The 28-VDC, 57-amp BP-57/100 is the first product in a new series of ground power units (GPUs) being produced by Best Power. This GPU can be used anywhere in the world because it runs on 120–240 VAC.

With a conditional power output of 57 amps and a surge capacity of 100 amps, it can be utilised to supply a range of ground power requirements, including updating aircraft databases and operating and testing electric flaps.
