    GEO Semiconductor Introduces RGB-IR Solution for Vehicle Cabin Monitoring Systems GEO Semiconductor Inc., the global leader in video processors for automobile viewing cameras, today introduced a solution for gathering and processing high-quality HDR colour (RGB) and infrared (IR) automotive interior images from a single sensor at the same time.

     

    The solution will be displayed at GEO Semiconductor’s suite. This system combines ST’s latest VB1940 5MP RGB-IR image sensor with GEO’s tried-and-true GW5 Camera Video Processor.

     

    It combines the VB1940’s unique ability to provide both global and rolling shutter modes with the GW5’s ability to process both video formats on the fly to create the industry’s only InCabin solution that supports both DMS and OMS applications with a single high-resolution camera while also providing HDR on the colour frame.

     

    As a result, synchronisation with cabin illuminators in global shutter mode is simple, while HDR detail is provided for in-cabin monitoring. The ST VB1940 5MP RGB-IR image sensor combines rolling- and global-shutter pixel technology to provide a set of capabilities designed to handle the difficult issues of in-cabin video.

     

    The rolling-shutter mode enables multiple-exposure HDR-RGB photos with a dynamic range of up to 100dB. Frame synchronisation with pulsed IR illumination sources is provided via the global-shutter mode, resulting in flicker-free NIR (near infrared) video.
