EVs rely on batteries for energy storage. EVs have several electric power components, including the motor, battery, on-board charger, and the Electric Power Control Unit (EPCU). All are necessary for the conversion of the battery’s electricity into the kinetic force that propels the EV forward.
Storage A boot, trunk, glove box, enclosed centre console, or concealed cargo area of a sedan, station wagon, hatchback, van, or motorhome is referred to as a compartment. It also includes overhead storage if you are travelling by plane or train.
The Global EV Storage Compartments market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
GM is launching a new business that will connect EV chargers and energy storage to homes and businesses. General Motors announced the formation of a new business unit to provide stationary battery packs, solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, and other energy-management products to homes and businesses.
The new unit, GM Energy, aims to build on GM’s recent battery and software expertise to develop a new line of electric vehicles that will, in time, offer products and services for what the company calls “energy management,” including hardware such as batteries and solar panels, as well as hydrogen fuel cells and, crucially, cloud-based software that can connect these offerings with electric vehicles and utility companies.
The goal of GM Energy is twofold: to help the automaker control the customer experience when they buy a new EV, EV growth operations, the new business unit provides “resilience” to customers and energy grids”If they have an unexpected power outage, they can use their vehicle or a stationary storage box to power their home or small business,. During a heat wave or other event, the batteries can also feed energy back into a regional power grid.
PG&E is collaborating with GM Energy on a pilot test of a “bi-directional charger,” which enables an EV to power a home during a power outage. The EVs charge at night when rates are low, and they may be able to provide energy back to the grid during peak hours.
adding that energy management can save commercial customers hundreds of thousands of dollars per year and provide consumers with additional savings, if not income.
