INTRODUCTION
A bilevel car or double-decker coach is a type of rail car that has two levels of passenger accommodation, as opposed to one, increasing passenger capacity (in example cases of up to 57% per car).
When possible, using double-decker carriages can solve capacity issues on a railroad without incurring additional infrastructure costs. These alternatives include longer trains, which require longer station platforms, more trains per hour, which may not be possible due to signalling or safety requirements, and adding additional tracks in addition to the current line. Two deck trains are reported to be more energy efficient,[2] and may have a reduced operating cost per passenger
