The global high-voltage e-axle market has been witnessing significant growth in recent years, driven by the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) worldwide. A high voltage e-axle is an integrated electric drivetrain system that combines an electric motor, power electronics, and gearbox into a single unit, operating at voltage levels above 400V, typically between 400V and 800V.
Geographically, the Asia-Pacific region, led by China, is the largest and fastest-growing market due to the rapid adoption of EVs and the presence of major automotive manufacturers. Europe and North America are also significant markets, driven by stringent emissions regulations and consumer demand for eco-friendly vehicles.
An eAxle is an electric drive system that integrates the necessary components required to propel a vehicle while utilizing a traditional axle structure. With gearing designed to handle high motor torque and high amounts of brake regeneration, eAxles – like the scalable Accelera offerings – can be adapted to fit various needs based on a vehicle’s application, duty cycle, and regional requirements and duty cycle.
eAxles take energy from battery-powered motors, which commonly use lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. Axles typically have one motor but, depending on how large the axle is, may have two to ensure they can deliver a sufficiently high level of energy. The latest generation of eAxles have components like the motor and transmission incorporated into one, which can weigh much less as a whole than the three separate parts.
The Global high-voltage e-axles market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
ZF Unveiled Next Generation AxTrax 2 LF Low-Floor Electric Axle for City Buses. AxTrax 2 LF offers a compact and light system with integrated electric wheel hub drive. Leveraging ZF Group’s in-house developed innovative electric drive platform, AxTrax 2 LF provides optimized performance and efficiency for battery electric, fuel cell and trolley buses
Nidec Corporation launched new product lineup of second-generation (Gen. 2) high-voltage e-axles, the 180kW model and the 250kW model. With the use of high-slot-filling wire-winding technology, improved output achieved by a new magnet layout, and improved cooling efficiency achieved by optimizing the oil-cooling system, the Gen. 2 models boast compact sizes, light weights, and a dramatically reduced use of heavy rare-earth magnets.
Compared with the 150kW Gen. 1 product, the 180kW model is 17% smaller in volume, while the 250kW model, which newly uses SiC on its inverter, is capable of handling a high bus voltage of 800V. These features of the new models greatly contribute to improving the power, electric power consumption, and noise and vibration performance of the vehicle, and reducing its weight.
Vitesco Technologies has launched EMR3 high-voltage e-axles drive. It delivers a continuous output power of 60 kW and a peak output power of 150 kW. This e-axle driver provides a peak torque of 310 Nm (motor) and 2700 Nm (wheel) and has a speed of up to 1350 rpm. It consists of a power electronic inverter, an electrical machine (PSM), and a third-generation single-gear reducer.
