Safety is always put first when it comes to applications for railway infrastructure. To ensure safe operation, every component and system utilised in a railway application, including connectors and cables, must be exceptionally dependable and of the highest calibre.
Train power supply systems, signalling systems, and various forms of rolling equipment (such as locomotives, railroad cars, and coaches) all employ railway connectors to send data and signals.
The complexity of interconnect technology, and more especially, connectors used in train systems, has increased as a result of the demand for efficient, quick, and dependable mass transit.
The Global Railway plastic connector market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Easy REP, a REP connector series variant with a shorter cycle life, was developed by Smiths Interconnect for rail application. The original REP series has the company’s “Hypertac” hyperboloid contacts and is rated for >20,000 mating cycles. Easy REP connectors offer a maximum 18A rating, dependable signal integrity, and no contact interruption for longer than 50ns.
These 1.5mm diameter screw-machined contacts, known as the “MR contact” (Original REP is “HC”), are available for cables ranging in diameter from 0.75 to 2.5mm2 (18-13AWG). It is crimp-and-poke assembled.
With a silicone over-moulded grommet and interface sealing, 2, 6, and 12 contact Easy REP connections are available. This prevents leakage between the plastic connector body and the silicone seal, allowing the business to claim IP66/IP67 environmental protection.
RoHS III compatible materials adhere to NF F 61-030, EN 45545-2, and EN 61-373 Category 2 for vibration resistance in the rail industry.
